So I’ve been meaning to post about the Barack Obama comeback for the last week and now Sweeney has stolen my thunder. I guess that’s my punishment for being an abesentee blogger.
Damn Oprah is right. I mean, I have nothing against Obama as a person. He seems nice, intelligent, and more human that many of his political opponents. But his campaign really rubs me the wrong way. The frequent and annoying emails asking for small donations, the sneaky way of taking jabs at other opponents while maintaining a moral highground, the doublespeak, etc…. Of course, I could say the same for most of the other candidates as well. But (and this is where my irritation stems from), the whole message of Obama is that his campaign is somehow different. He is different.
Well, I don’t buy it. It seems like the same old shit to me. And I don’t think that someone who has risen so high and fast in the political world can be different. People are creatures of habit. We don’t like change. And we don’t like honesty. We don’t want to hear that the future president might not be able to solve every ill of society. We don’t even want to hear that there are ills of society. We want to know that everything is going to come up roses. And guess what, our taxes will be lowered at the same time. Because everyone knows that roses come cheap.
So, my conclusion – if so many people think Obama is great, either he’s not being honest or they’re not really listening.
